planeimages > RAAF F-111G afterburner take-off Avalon. FLTLT Craig Whiting executes a maximum-performance departure in A8-272. "Delivered to RAAF 10/05/94. Former USAF FB-111A and F-111G AF68-272. Served with the USAF's 428thFS/27thFW. Retired at Cannon AFB, NM on 23/09/82. Allocated to AMARC as FV0130. Later removed from storage and transported to the Sacramento ALC, McClellan AFB, CA for refurbishment and sale to Australia. Named 'Boneyard Wrangler', first F-111 to be recovered from the Boneyard on arrival at AMARC the aircraft had a total of 5766.1 flight hours. Used for the flyby during the 2000 Sydney Olympics Closing Ceremony over the Olympic Stadium. Avalon Airshow 2001. Grounded from 12/02/02 to 2003 due to wing failures. Display aircraft at Avalon 2005. In Service 6 Sqn RAAF." Information courtesy www.adf-serials.com.au  The "Boneyard Wrangler" has since been retired and is housed at the RAAF Museum at Point Cook.

planeimages > RAAF F/A18A Hornet A21-26 flown by  SQNLDR Paul Simmons departs with afterburners. Note the vortex form the port wingtip. "Simmo" was much more circumspect with gear retraction than the USAF pilots, but put on a stunning display.
