A week staying at Pinetrees on Lord Howe Island provided a wonderful opportunity to explore Paradise and to take many images. Great food, lovely staff, wonderful friends and fantastic Jazz from "Fireworks" combined to make this memorable holiday. Six of these images won awards at Northside Creative Photography Club's "Land and Seascape" competition on 5.4.06.

"Albatross" built 1936. Originally a tender for the Sandringham flying-boat services to Lord Howe Island. Owned by Ed and Anne ("Pixie") Rourke and inherited from her father. Cabin structure added in later years.

A beautiful craft which must be preserved for ever.

Surf on "Blinkys" Beach on the eastern side of Lord Howe Island. The west wind blows the spume from the top of the waves which were really quite small. A bit of darkening in Photoshop adds effect. "Special Merit" Northside Creative Photography Club 5.4.06.

Old Settlement Beach is in the background. A memorial is situated in a glade near the creek near the trees on the left. Another is placed on the ridge above the crash site where the aircraft struck the ground while turning crosswind to land on the lagoon in the early evening.
A Qantaslink DHC-8-200 lines up for take off at Lord Howe Island. The prop-wash and turbine efflux as the pilot brought the PW 123s up to full power blew off my glasses and nearly knocked me over. Dumb to stand on the grass verge but I got the shot!
