HARS Catalina overflies Rathmines. My father, Sqn Ldr John "Jack" Finlay, served with 113 (ASR) Sqn one of several which operated from Rathmines. He undertook a series of flights in just one Catalina, A24-112, departing from Rathmines at 1700hrs on 11.11.1946 with pilot Flying Officer Black to Port Moresby. This took 13 1/4 hours, mostly at night. From there they flew the Catalina to various ports in the area. Dad Returned from Port Moresby via Townsville with the aircraft being commanded by Sqn Ldr Emslie arriving at Rathmines at 2230hrs on 28.11.1946. The trip occupied 38 hrs 30 minutes flying time, all in daylight except for the outbound and inbound flights.
